Ultimate Medical Academy Basic X-Ray Program & Classes

According to the Agency for Workforce Innovation Labor Market Report published in February 2005, the Health Care market will be among the fastest growing occupations in Florida through 2012. To help fulfill this growing demand, Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) has designed an accredited Basic X-ray Program for individuals looking to provide radiological support to physicians in doctors' offices, medical clinics, chiropractic centers, and other healthcare facilities. The program trains individuals for entry-level employment as a Basic X-Ray Machine Operator, either with or without prior medical training. UMA Students will learn about the following:

  • Patient Care and Management
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance
  • Radiation Safety and Protection
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Positioning and Procedures
  • CPR & First Aid
  • Employment Skills
  • And much more…

UMA students will learn and practice the basic tasks of an x-ray technician, including the fundamentals of radiological technology, patient care, equipment and safety, classroom and clinical instruction in anatomy and physiology, procedures, radiation physics, radiation protection, principles of imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, medical ethics, radiobiology, and pathology. UMA students are also placed in internships at local doctor’s offices, where they participate in taking live X-rays and gain the valuable hands on experience that make student competitive to employers. The program trains students to become a basic X-ray technician, also known as a radiographer. You will learn to x-ray various parts of the body and then pass the processed film on to radiologists who diagnose and treat health conditions such as cancer, ulcers or broken bones. Students are encouraged to watch and listen during diagnoses to help themselves stay current with terminology and procedures. Working directly with patients or through a physician, x-ray technologists explain the procedure to patients, and operate the x-ray machine. X-ray technicians must follow important safety procedures by using a radiation shield to protect the patient and themselves from dangerous radiation from the equipment. With so much responsibility, employers are seeking those who are suitably trained, certified, and those that have hands on internship experience.

Upon completion of the basic x-ray technician program, graduates will receive a Certificate and will be qualified to sit for the DOH Bureau of Radiology BXMO Exam to become a state licensed basic x-ray machine operator, or the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services Basic X-Ray Machine Operator Exam. Students who complete the UMA x-ray program have an opportunity to continue their education in the x-ray field if they choose to specialize in computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Graduates can look forward to job placement in chiropractor offices, family practices, wellness centers, outpatient labs, mobile services, and medical staffing agencies. Ultimate Medical Academy also provides job placement assistance for UMA graduates

Ultimate Medical Academy faculty and staff are all experienced in their fields, so they are knowledgeable about the community, industry, and student needs. All facilities are clean and professional, and the equipment is up to date. Click here for more information
